The crew had a great week in Marlborough - the last week of the South Island leg of the 2011 Roadtrip. We started off with a couple of days of workshops at Marlborough Boys High School and another fantastic Inspiring Stories workshop at NMIT. We spent a morning at Springlands School in Blenheim checking out their amazing 'eco-hut' and interviewing Annie McDonald from the Nelson Marlborough District Council about her work in education. The Blenheim film night was a small affair, but it was cool to see some of the local ReGen crew and to check out the Marlborough Musuem who hosted the evening.
Rick Zwaan and Lani Evans took time out during the week to participate in the Philanthropy New Zealand conference in Wellington. Rick was a presenter on the final day and made a short film about the conference, all in 24 hours!
The highlight of the week was the Marlborough Youth Jam which we held at Lake Rotoiti Lodge. Thirty-two people spent over two days together learning about Adventure Based Learning, Climate Change and Energy, Leadership, Digital Photography, Outdoor Education, Global Poverty and Project Management. It was really enspiring to see how the participants from five local high schools got on together and engaged in the workshops. We were self catering at the lodge and everyone helped out and generally made it a great weekend. Thanks to Russel and the crew at Rotoiti Lodge for the use of the venue.
The ReGen crew had a great time in Marlborough. It was a perfect way to complete the first part of the Roadtrip. Now the crew has a well earned 'break' to catch up on our day jobs and lives outside ReGeneration. We will also be preparing for the North Island part of the journey starting on the 9th of May in Manawatu. Bring it on!
